“Zouwu”, Helena Hladilová: the role of tale

The exhibition Zouwu is the first solo show by Helena Hladilová at SpazioA, in Pistoia. Opened on January 29th, 2022, the expositive project testifies to a new transformed and far-sighted vision in the artist’s practice, dictating unprecedented rhythms, narratives and outcomes. The show will be on view until March 12, 2022.

"Installed at different heights, these artworks seem to follow the plot of a children’s tale, where the spatial-temporal coordinates thicken and tangle, and the metamorphosis is a constant. The narration sucks the viewer into its whirlpool of a sometimes-primordial wonder, who finds himself chasing the thread of history of the illustrations that Hladilová puts us on our path and that fragment the gait with the repeated opening of new windows. At the same time the plots force us to continue pursued by a desire for discovery and curiosity."

"These bodies that rise from the gallery space, engender paths and other worlds in which to immerse oneself, become something from which one cannot escape, a sort of undertow that lures in itself and forces to be seen in all its “brutal” splendour. By carrying out an activity of recovery and exposure to decay on commodities secularly linked to exploitation and domination, Dominique White celebrates and pays homage to Blackness, consciously avoiding a position of power with respect to the object of art and materials it is made up of."

Superblast at Manifattura Tabacchi: a project of contemporary fluidity

“Superblast” (composto da sùper, «sopra», e da -blasto, «germe») indica qualcosa di grande, che debba ancora vedere luce. Da questi presupposti nasce la prima edizione del progetto di residenze promosso da NAM – Not a Museum, il programma per l’arte contemporanea di Manifattura Tabacchi, Firenze, con una call internazionale per artisti e un focus tematico incentrato sulla multidisciplinarietà e sostenibilità.

"These kinds of projects deserve particular praise: they are essential and a natural consequence of the hybrid and fluid contemporary reality we are immersed in."

Ali Banisadr. Beautiful Lies at Palazzo Vecchio and Museo Stefano Bardini in Florence

"As a result of a life lived both in an inner and a collective way, his “worldscapes”, where figuration and abstract meet and balance each other, spread a rhythmic energy of intertwined sounds and colors. The creation of a restless motion and metamorphosis does not allow any focal point or hierarchy to emerge in his composition, instead produces a structural complexity and a multiplicity of figures that overlap and blend until fulfilling a harmony typical of orchestras."
